This piece was turned from a Monkey Puzzle tree (chilean pine). This tree grew in the grounds of the Catholic Church in Newmarket Co Cork.
I turned this piece into the endgrain in order to get the spectacular ring of knots that go all around the bowl.
Yew Hollow Form
10.5ins high 10ins wide
Spalted Beech Platter
23.5ins wide
The timber for this large platter came from Hoddersfield,Fountainstown, Co. Cork.
The spalting which produces the black lines and yellow colours is caused by fungi that attack the tree, usually after it has died.
This piece was made from the same tree as above.
The spalting is particularly spectacular on this bowl.

All of these pieces are sold. However if you wish to contact me I may have similar work in progress.
The Yew tree that I turned this piece from was cut down 40 years ago in the grounds of Blarney Castle, Co. Cork.
It was recently uncovered by the forestry manager when staff were clearing an overgrown area. The tree is over 3.5 feet in diameter at the base and is probably 4 to 5 hundred years old. Imagine the sights it has witnessed!
